Universal Studios Hollywood: 21 Days of Grinchmas!

It’s the time of the year when everyone is planning where to take their little one’s to enjoy their much needed holiday year ender vacations. I have certainly planned my December break with the kiddos many many months ago… how about you? If you haven’t planned anything yet, why don’t you consider joining me in my Winter Who-land plan?!

One of my most favorite story books to read especially this time of the year is How The Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss. Admit that you read this to your child with much delight, too!

I am over the moon to announce that we will be heading to The Entertainment Capital of L.A.,  Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk for a wintry calendar of cool holiday activities! Oh boy, my 8 year old son will surely be as excited as I am!

More Grinchmas news–

A very, merry “Grinchmas” returns to Universal Studios Hollywood as the theme park celebrates theWho-lidays with The Grinch, his faithful dog Max and a roster of Whos from the town of Who-ville.

“Grinchmas” runs weekends on December 5-6 and 12-13, then continues daily from December 18, 2015 through January 3, 2016.

The Universal Plaza, an elaborate grand piazza at the heart of the theme park, will serve as the backdrop for the lighting of the towering “Grinchmas” tree – a whimsical centerpiece twisting and spiraling 60 feet above visitors and providing the ideal setting for merry holiday-making memories, while The Grinch, his adorable dog Max and the Who-ville Whos entertain guests nearby with fun-filled photo opportunities.

As part of the fab-Who-lous event, Martha May Who-vier and the Who Dolls will take center stage by the “Grinchmas” tree performing energetic musical sets to usher in the Christmas season in style. TheWholiday Singers – a hip boy-band ensemble – will perform nightly a cappella concerts featuring a mix of Christmas favorites and pop rock.

In return, Dr. Seuss Enterprises, L.P. and Random House Children’s Books, the publishers of Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, will pay it forward by donating a book to a child in need through First Book on behalf of the sender.

·      Trim up the Tree Lot – Guests can design and personalize their own “Grinchmas” ornaments to help decorate the venue’s other “Grinchmas” trees or take them home as a keepsake.

·      Who-bilicious Cookie Dec-Who-rating – Freshly baked gingerbread and Christmas tree cookies will be available for purchase, and guests can create their very own amazing treats with an assortment of delectable frostings and tasty toppers.

·      Story Time with Cindy-Lou WhoCindy-Lou Who and her Who friends will gather guests of all ages – tall and small – for an engaging storytelling show of Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas, featuring special effects and audience participation.

The spirit of “Grinchmas” also will come to life aboard the world-famous behind-the-scenes Studio Tour with engaging performances by unforgettable Who-ville Whos re-enacting popular scenes and songs from the family favorite at the original film sets from the blockbuster film, “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”

The spirit of the season continues with a wintertime transformation of Universal CityWalk, beginning the day after Thanksgiving on Friday, November 27 through Friday, January 1, 2016.  A spectacular 40-foot tall Christmas tree will glisten with 200,000 LED icicles choreographed to the lights and sounds of the season in the “5 Towers” plaza. Santa Claus will make nightly appearances and offer special photo opportunities at “5 Towers” plaza while evening snow falls hourly at the heart of CityWalk. Visits from St. Nick, along with free concert performances and an eclectic ensemble of talented street performers will make CityWalk the ultimate L.A. holiday destination. Admission to Universal CityWalk is free.

Sounds marvelous, right? Let me know if you will be going! I will be there Christmas week with my little globetrotters! Yay!

Baguio is The City of Pines in Northern Luzon

As mentioned in my earlier post, I was down with the a nasty bug during our Baguio vacation so I wasn’t able to do much except enjoy the cold climate and take scenic strolls with my little one who was happy to be basking outside in nature without having to sweat in the Manila heat! I call this our family’s break in for the upcoming winter in America!

Any tips for the cold? We’ll be arriving in San Francisco December 14 and will stay until January 7. I would love to hear recommendations on surviving the cold weather for kids! Thanks in advance 🙂

What To Eat While Stuck in Northern Luzon Traffic

Being on holiday in the Philippines is like a double-edged sword. You’ve got long weekends for traveling with family, yay! And then you’ve the rest of Metro Manila having the same idea of going up to Baguio so you’ve got traffic….with kids….who are hungry! Yikes!

Good thing there’s Tupig. Tupig is a famous Filipino delicacy made from rice flour, coconut milk, coconut strips and sweetener wrapped in banana leaves and grilled over hot charcoal. I bought a bundle of 5 (with 3 individually wrapped tupig pieces per pack) for Php100 or a little over 2 USD from a vendor in one of our gas station stops. This did the job to tide my kids over until we found a restuarant for our late lunch.

I know it doesn’t look like much but you’ve got to trust me that this little piece of what looks like glob tastes super yummy! I’ve only learned about this local snack for just a little over a year. I do want to share it with all of you so you can be a little more adventurous when hungry on the road. Plus, your kids will love the taste of tupig and learn about local snacks while traveling, too!

Do you have other local delicacies you can recommend? We’d love to try them, too!

Bohol Bee Farm with Kids

A trip to Bohol just isn’t complete without making a side trip to the awesome Bohol Bee Farm ❤

Travel Tip: Call ahead to reserve a tour guide and don’t go any later than 4pm as their last tour starts at 4:30pm sharp.

In-house guests can wade in this pool which is situated right by the entrance.

While Bohol Bee Farm is known for the organic farm, I personally think that they are gaining more fame from their homemade ice cream! They have got the most amazing local ice cream flavors like Malunggay, Dragon Fruit, Jack Fruit and Durian!

The newly opened spa which has affordable foot and body massages was luring me! If I wasn’t traveling with my little one, I would have definitely had a rub down. So, please bring a baby sitter to watch over your kids so you can relax for an hour here!

You can marvel at the view while getting pampered. How awesome is that?IMG_2312

And this was our dining view from the restaurant deck. Amazing!

How Not to Have Overweight Baggage Ever Again!

As a frequent traveller, a common headache is overweight baggge. Each time I check in, I always pray that I am within baggage weight limit because if there is one thing that bugs me, it is spending unecessarily for extra weight fees (Yes, it has happened!). Thanks to Balanzza MINI sport, I no longer need to worry about this anymore!

balanzza mini sport

My husband gamely modeled the Balanza MINI Sport, a new digital luggage scale that is both handy and strong. It has the same features as Balanza’s other models (Ergo or Mini), but it is the lightest and easiest to carry. Hurray! Just what traveling moms need.

It has a maximum capacity of 100 lbs, or 44 kgs, offering the most natural way to lift heavy objects. I reckon this will come so handy for our upcoming US trip since we will be taking at least 3 big sized luggages and will have to comply with Philippine Airline’s weight limit per baggage.

Interesting to note that the Balanzza MINI Sport is also water resistant, making it possible for outdoorsy folks like my family to bring during our trips to the beach! Hello, camping!!!
