The Gypsy’s Lair in Puerto Princesa

Thankfully, just a few minutes walk away from The Canvas Boutique Hotel is The Gypsy’s Lair in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

It is designed very creatively. You can tell that artists must own this place! They even have palm reading on Fridays-Sundays.

While they had an interesting display of desserts, we sampled their local Filipino fare which didn’t disappoint.

A Balm for My Soul: Two Oceans at Maya Maya Beach

house for rent beach philippines

Every year, my family have an annual beach gathering to celebrate Easter week together for creating memories. The past two years have been at Two Oceans Beach House in Maya Maya, Nasubu, Batangas in the Philippines.

We arrived on the auspicious full moon day where we basked under its light come evening.

During the day, the kids swam and played while the adults bonded over stories, food and drinks.

Now forgive me, I didn’t get a chance to take decent photos of the rooms (5 total) but here’s a sneak peak of very messy shots the day we left!

A few steps away from the property is the village’s access to the beach. It is very rocky (wise to wear water shoes or sandals), but certainly has its charm.

Top 6 Indoor Activities For Kids in Manila

As a mother of two children, I a make it a point to be updated with kid-friendly and age-appropriate places to take them. Useful Tips on Visiting Universal Studios with Young Children

A trip to Los Angeles is incomplete without a visit to the Universal Studios in Hollywood. I remember this place vividly as a child and to return decades after brings back a flood of memories! I am happy to recreate new memories in one of the iconic places in SoCal with two kids in tow.

universal studios hollywood

Find the map and directions to Universal via driving or public transportation here.

Do invest in front of line passes. Some of the rides and attractions may take up to an hour of waiting time! These front of line passes lets you cut through the crowds to save you precious time! Another tip to save on time is to study the map found here before going to make an itinerary suitable for you and your family members.

The festive feel is all over Universal this month and will most likely run until January, so do go for a visit to as soon as possible!merry christmas universal studio hollywood

Since my daughter is very young, she couldn’t get to do many of the rides. Thankfully, Universal Studios has the child switch service where you can wait in a special section for infants and switch with your partner if you want to get on the ride without having to line up again. Although, if you have front of the line passes, this won’t be an issue. But the designated areas are a huge help for parents with young children.

The Despicable Me Minion Mayhem was the first ride my son took together with my husband.

My daughter didn’t make the height requirement so we took photos while waiting instead. Note that she¬†hasn’t seen the movie so she was wondering who these gigantic cartoony creatures were. If you are with little ones, consider that they might get spooked, initially so it helps to warm them up to characters¬†before taking photos.

grinch whoville universal studio

If you do visit Universal Studios Hollywood until January 3, you’ll be greeted by the characters of Grinchmas in Whoville who were such a delight bringing to life the magic of the book, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas! I wrote all about this here.

Jurassic Park was¬†one ride that I got to do with my son while my husband watched over the baby. Don’t be fooled by the innocent looking¬†river raft. The real adventure lies is the 84-foot plunge at the very end which will make your heart race!

jurassic park universal

The Universal Studio tour was unanimously the favorite of my family! It is a 60-min ride so be prepared to go with snacks and a drink (just in case the kids get hungry or thirsty!). Also, the lines were extra long so if you do not have the front of the line passes, you will be waiting over 60 minutes during holidays. Best be prepared by coming earlier than the crowds.

If you’re not a fan of rides or are baby-sitting small ones, you can opt to enjoy the live entertainment around the theme park. These musicians¬†were so very talented¬†and funny!

For the kids and kids at heart, there is a fun playground located just right next to Despicable Me Minion Mayhem. The Super Silly Fun Land ¬†is more age-appropriate for them. You can rest and watch them play from a nearby bench as they climb, jump and slide. Gru’s LAB cafe is also nearby for a bite or a cup of coffee and still within eyes view from the playground!

It was extra cold that day so make sure your kids are all covered and have a blanket, too for when they are asleep in the stroller. Oh, the stroller will save your day so make sure to bring a lightweight, easy-to-use one!

My son enjoyed so much that he made me promise to take him back to Universal Studios. I honestly cannot wait to! Harry Potter’s Wizarding World is opening in Hollywood on April 2016. Watch the official tv commercial here. Who’s as excited as I am to return?!

Momo Beach House in Bohol

Momo Beach House in Panglao Island, Bohol

We just returned from a short and sweet escape to Panglao Island in Bohol, Philippines!¬†My last post was a guide to kids on what you can do in Bohol because I’ve been there 3 times already with my little globetrotters! This post is dedicated to our awesome family-friendly stay on the island. Momo Beach House is a different kind of resort because it has that very homey feel.

momo bohol

Those hammocks or duyan in Tagalog are perfect for a lazy afternoon snooze.

I sneaked into one of the unoccupied rooms and here is a photo of the Standard Room on the 2nd floor. They honestly have better rooms so do book the Deluxe or Family Rooms when you plan on visiting. We stayed on the first floor which is child-friendly because you can walk right out to the pool or the beach.

momo beach house standard room

I was glad to be back to conduct another #FlowBohol retreat a second time around with little Maya. She was only a few months old the last time and now she’s walking around the resort!

I appreciate it when staff of the hotel are so nice to my kids. This is one of their in-house staff who took time to communicate with my darling daughter. The Filipinos in general though are very hospitable and love children!

momo beach house bohol staff

Yay for this high-chair in the resort! I notice that some hotels and resorts do not have high chairs which is a shame because it makes meal times so much more comfortable for the parents. I was traveling without my husband last weekend for work so this made it possible for me to eat more peacefully versus having Maya on my lap while we eat.  Do order the danggit or bangus for breakfast for a taste of local Filipino dishes.

Tip: Go to the beachfront and walk to the far right side. You’ll find this amazing swing right by the shore. Playground on paradise!

Another tip: Get access to free kayaking and paddle boards at Momo Beach House.

kayak bohol

Thank you to Lagu for sending me the mommy-friendly beach blanket (now with pockets!) for my birthday! Much appreciated and so useful for all my outdoor trips!

The haze from Indonesian forest fires reached Philippine shores so there were times we couldn’t see the blue skies but this photo was able to capture the beauty of Momo Beach House’s frontage. The little hut where I am standing with baby is actually owned by the resort beside Momo though!

Awesome Sunday Brunch 2 at Spectrum, Fairmont Makati Hotel

If you happen to be in Manila and are looking for a really cool treat for your kids on a SundayРFairmont Makati Hotel has an Awesome Sunday Brunch at Spectrum! It is guaranteed to delight not just kids, but, parents too! My family is living proof of this!

On display are different Lego vignettes featuring local Philippine heritage which can be a teaching tool for history and culture. Homeschooling families, come on over!

Fairmont Makati Awesome Brunch

I knew I had to eat lightly so I just chose healthy picks from the buffet to compensate for the serious dessert damage later on! I am glad that their salad buffet had loads of vegetables and sauces to choose from. A vegetarian will have no trouble eating at Spectrum! Yay!

Salad Spectrum Fairmont

If you’re on a strict Paleo diet, you can ask the chef to grill you fish or meat and have some vegetables on the side too. Rice is optional, of course!

Spectrum Buffet Fairmont

The highlight of the buffet is obviously the fantastic dessert spread which is stylized with Lego characters and blocks. This proves to be a Lego fanatics dream come true!

spectrum lego brunch

Remember to save room for dessert because there is a loooot to sample. I made sure that I still had the ability to try as much of the sweet offerings (except for the chocolate chicharon!) or else it would haunt me forever after. If I didn’t get to try this and that and this and that, I don’t think I would ever forgive myself! Tip: You must try those delicious Mango Chocolate covered marshmallow pops! You’ll forget your name when you bite into it!

chocolate lego fairmont makati

Aren’t these chocolate Lego details too adorable for words?! Oh, how I wish I took these home!

lego fairmont buffet

I let my kids indulge at this special occasion because I honestly do not allow them too much sugary snacks at home. (Yes, I’m that kind of mom. LOL!)

Raffle Spectrum Fairmont Hotel

My 8 year old son thought that the Awesome Sunday Brunch was the coolest thing on earth. “Mom, that hotel has the best food ever!”, he said. As a parent, you are happy when the kids are happy! I know you’ll agree with me on this one!

Spectrum’s Awesome Sunday Brunch 2 is at Php 2,777 net per person. Children from 6 to 12 years old get 50% off on the buffet price. This will run until end of November.

L’usine Le Loi Cafe + Shop in Saigon

L'usine Saigon

Do you look for quaint places¬†when traveling? We do! I was told that L’usine was a nice place to eat and has a unique shop featuring interesting finds in Ho Chi Minh City. So, we went to check it out, of course!
L'usine HCMC

There is something about this place that fit with our style. Everything is vintage themed which we love! Check out their store loot!   L'usine Monopoly

If there is one thing I totally regret not getting, it is this Monopoly set! Arg!
L'usine gameboards

Some of the items here remind me of a good friend in Antipolo. Ana Gutch of Body Food has very similar taste. I bet she would go nuts in this store!  L'usine sewing machine

Oh, glass jars. If only I could take all of you home for my dream apothecary, I would!

Many souvenir and gift ideas can be found here, too!

After window shopping at the first floor, we went for brunch at the second floor.
lusine saigon  For a moment, we stayed outside to scope the seen with a drink.
Lusine Ho Chi Minh

Then we settled back inside for scrambled eggs and salmon while my son had their waffle. In my opinion, the food didn’t rise to it’s popularity. Next time, I’ll be back for the shopping ūüôā
